Rocky Top Ranch is a historic, luxurious and state-of-the-art vacation home. It is solar-powered, self-sufficient and “off-grid,” while also conveniently located a couple of miles from Ridgecrest, California. The nearest neighbor is two miles away, but a short ride into town offers major grocery stores, shopping, medical facilities, first-run movie theater, and a variety of restaurants.
Situated only 2 1/2 hours northwest of Los Angeles, RTR overlooks 100 square miles of publicly-accessible Federal Bureau of Land Management Reserve, where the Mojave Desert meets the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The preserve is available for hiking, off-roading, mountain biking, motorcycle, Polaris ATV, and dirt bike riding — just about any suitable desert sport you can name. Wildlife is abundant in the Mojave Desert, with sheep, tortoises, wild burros, birds and more making the occasional visit to RTR. The surrounding area is rich with ghost towns, museums and antiques. There is plenty to see and do!
The luxurious Ranch homestead comfortably sleeps up to 14 guests in well-appointed upstairs and downstairs en suite bedrooms, a first floor guest room, and a bunk room fit for six. Every modern convenience is provided, including air-conditioning, a fully-stocked kitchen, laundry facility, pet-friendly wash station, Star-Link WiFi, a 120-inch projection screen for streaming or presentations, and an exercise room. It has spectacular indoor and outdoor 360 degree views of four separate mountain ranges. Stargazing without light pollution is superb on most nights, offering a clear view of millions of stars.
The Ranch’s electric and HVAC are powered by solar-charged commercial-grade batteries, with generator backup in case of lengthy cloud cover. Our mineral water is drawn directly from the aquifer with primary filtration for general use, and is perfect for a refreshing soak or cold-plunge. A secondary filtration is provided for safe and healthful kitchen use. Our water is lab-tested twice annually.
At Rocky Top Ranch, guests feel like they are a million miles from civilization, but with every comfort of home. RTR’s Property Manager lives on-site in a separate coach house, and is there to ensure your comfort by acting as concierge, and the smooth operation of all mechanicals. The sunsets are breath-taking and unforgettable.
